Yang Guang (b. Chao’an, Guangdong) is the Artistic Director of urban landscape planning and design department at Urban Planning & Design Institute of Shenzhen, and a council member of China Sculpture Institute. His sculptures take inspiration from electronic waste such as wire and circuit board, tracing back to his experience at his hometown which is located next to an e-waste disposal plant. Naturally, he has grown entangled feelings about electronic waste, prompting him to weave and reshape the materials into plants and fruit forms. They imply a mutually encroaching and counteracting relationship between organic and inorganic matters in the environment. Meanwhile, in the same process, electronic waste is granted new meanings that are disparate from their originally practical and functional roles. Perhaps in this process, a new life form can also be given birth.
