Every time I go climbing it becomes even more apparent how useful a rehab tool it is. It’s low impact on the joints at the same time as challenging me to move my body in ways and patterns that I didn’t realise was still possible. It requires and improves strength, mobility, coordination & balance...all things that definitely wouldn’t make it on to my top trumps card... It’s not just physically challenging either, it’s a psychological test, a puzzle that requires patience and composure under stress, a useful attribute for anyone to bolster. Fear plays its part too, for some more than others and for me quite a lot! When harnessed properly however that fear becomes adrenaline and endorphins, a chemical cocktail that has my neurology firing faster and harder than any state I can achieve in a gym. You could write a book on the physical and neurological benefits of climbing, in fact people have, but for me, most of all, it’s fun. I might not be very good at it but my own curve of progress is very rewarding to me. The people I’ve met, the places I’m going and the time I get to spend outside all make this my favourite type of rehab yet. If you haven’t tried it I strongly encourage you to do so, it’s not just for the human spiders of this world, there’s something here for everyone, of all shapes, sizes and abilities, hopefully I can help show that... Thanks Meg @waldo_etherington & @remote_ropes_ltd for showing Lois and I the walls of Avon Gorge, what a place to have in the middle of the city! GWAN Bris.. P.s. Lois clearly had a terrible time.. #climbing #sci #spinalcordinjury #bristol #avongorge #berghausadapts #adaptiveadventure #climb #climbing #bristol
