When departing LAX this last week, our plane was held due to a ceremony for a fallen soldier, right outside our window. I had never seen this before, and it was truly heartbreaking. . I felt so grateful for this person, and his family who were all there waiting to surround him in love one last time. For the little girl who was lifted up so she could lay her arms and head on the casket, my heart absolutely broke. . There is so much conflict right now in our country, so much division, and this reminded me that being American is something we all can (and should) still be proud of, because it’s people like that who represent us, to fight for our freedoms that we all take for granted. . Is our country perfect? Absolutely not, it will never be. But we can be grateful for the freedoms we have that no other country offers. Is there still hate? Unfortunately. But we can be an example of peace, to others. . As we approach the 4th of July, let’s choose to be proud of our freedoms that this and so many other soldiers have given their lives to protect. .
