I get asked often if it’s worth taking a collagen supplement or using a collagen powder. While collagen is an incredibly important protein and has many roles in the human body, the research is mixed on how effective they are. Because of this, I generally don’t recommend taking a collagen supplement. But I do think it’s important to remember that there are lifestyle factors within our control that are responsible for damaging collagen. In addition to not smoking and being mindful of sun damage, these include avoiding a diet high in sugar and being aware of other quick-digesting carbohydrates.
