Mas noticias para nosotros! 🗞 A new law might just incentivize diversity hiring. While considerably good news, it’s hard to overlook that productions need to be paid in order to hire us. Once again, further proving that we are not equal in Hollywood, and I don’t want to sound like a broken record, but I think it’s important to have these discussions because it really isn’t okay. And personally, it took me finding the community of Nosotros to see that what’s going on has been going on for quite some time, and it isn’t right. Yes, the industry is hard to break into, but ridiculously so for people of color and it’s not by accident. It is very much purposefully done so. I’ve been watching #HartToHeart on @peacocktv and if you haven’t seen it, I highly recommend checking it out. @kevinhart4real brings a different industry guest each week and he dives into these great discussions about their past, mindset, successes, future goals, etc, and a common theme in the guests that are people of color, is the barriers they faced becoming a household name because of the color of their skin. And they were able to persevere and become successful by doing 2 things: utilizing the help from within their community and sheer consistent hustle. I hope the bill passes, and it enforces change for the better. Don’t sit around and wait for it though. Be active within our community. Reach out to people. Make connections. Create stuff together! If you’re casting for a project, use LatinX actors! If you need help finding actors, tag us and we’ll share it.
