One moment to fall apart. A weekend to get it right.” Last month, my IRL friends and I started a book club and this was our first pick! This was a super sweet, second chance romance story about two friends, Percy and Sam, who meet when Percy's parents buy a lake house next door to Sam's family home in Barry's Bay. For six summers, Percy and Sam galivant around the lake, creating a seemingly unbreakable connection. That is, until, Percy makes the biggest mistake of her life and runs away to an unattached city lifestyle. When she's called back to Barry's Bay for the first time in a decade to attend Sam's mother's funeral, they're forced to face their past and the fact that their connection is as undeniable as ever... What a sweet summer book! This was a perfect first book club pick-- palatable and easy to read but still had content to discuss! I gave this book 5/5 because I tore through it. I found it fast-paced, heart-warming, and delightful. After thinking about it more and discussing it in book club, I was tempted to knock it down a half-star, because there are a few issues I have with the story, in hindsight. As mentioned in the synopsis, there are some issues with Percy and Sam's relationship that lead to them not speaking for a decade. Without spoiling anything, I'll just say this-- I struggle when stories use two wrongs to make a right. That idea never works for me, and once that aspect was brought in, the book lost a little bit of glow for me. Ultimately though, I still loved this book. It tugged at my heart strings in ways that not a lot of books can. I can't wait to see what comes next from Carley Fortune! !?️QOTD: Did you spend time at the lane growing up?
