On July 16, the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline was launched, but 988 needs some work. While 988 can help get us closer to a true peer based response system, there are still connections to police responses and geo location, which many of the hotlines have, that raise concern for us and many in Black, Indigenous, Latinx, and Asian communities. We believe in informed consent, and it’s important folks know their options and what can happen when they access services. But we also have to be clear, in so many places in this country, there are no options. Let’s keep creating peer based care and help ourselves and our folks navigate these systems as safely as we can! #MentalHealthLiberation
