The FUTURE issue of @purplefashionmagazine is finally out. As this issue comes out, we are in the midst of a historical geopolitical conflict in Eastern Europe with a refugee crisis and the risk of nuclear war. As such, it is imperative to reconceptualize the future in novel and imaginative ways. The FUTURE issue delves into political ecology, technology and design that integrates indigenous knowledge, the viability of truly sustainable fashion, artificial intelligence, the gamification of reality, and the simulation in the metaverse. @ozpurple and I grappled with defining what the future means in our current era, or whether it could even be represented. Could we envision a future that did not entail the constant innovation of the present, the dystopic visions and eco-apocalyptic scenarios? The greatest minds and ideas that we featured point towards a shared vision: the future is in the here and the now. It is up to us to create it and give it a new direction. This powerful issue features interviews with T.J. Demos, Julia Watson, Daniel Pinchbeck, Constance Debré, Jon Rafman, Demna Gvasalia, Eliza Douglas, and others, as well as a curated selection of texts by Jean Baudrillard, Jean-Luc Nancy, Marc Augé, Mark Fisher, Hakim Bey, Rene Daumal, Adam Greenfield, Martha D. Riezu and the Invisible Committee. #purplefashionmagazine #thefuture #radicalindigenism #simulation #tjdemos #theanthropocene #artificialintelligence
