Working with Zora Neale Hurston’s family to adapt her legendary literature for kids has been joyous. As a writer. As a #girldad. And today, on Zora’s birthday, I’m thrilled to announce my second adaptation: THE MAKING OF BUTTERFLIES, a board book illustrated by @kahyangni.
THE MAKING OF BUTTERLIES opens the imagination of our babies about the work of creation and how the world came to be. This fun folktale comes from Zora’s classic ethnographical collection of southern African American folklore, Mules and Men (1935).
The Florida native gathered folktales she heard “from the earliest rocking of my cradle,” as she wrote in the collection’s introduction. And very soon, our babies will hear Zora’s THE MAKING OF BUTTERLIES from their earliest rocking! Coming March 7.
