🌟 BOOK REVIEW 🌟
WEATHER GIRL by @rlynn_solomon
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
Ari Abrams, morning meteorologist, is fed-up with being ignored by her boss and idol, Torrance Hale. Torrance and her ex-husband, who also happens to be the station's news director, are constantly at odds and disrupting the environment of the entire station. After bonding at a company partner gone wrong, Ari and sports reporter Russell decide to team up to get their bosses back together and reinstate peace throughout the station. What they don't expect, however, is for chemistry to bubble up between them, as well. Chaos, drama and maybe even a little spice ensue.
I expected to like this book more than I did. While an overall enjoyable read with a bit of unexpected spice, I found parts of this book to be redundant and unnecessary. Not to mention that, as @literaryhypewoman pointed out, a morning meteorologist and an evening sports reporter would almost never cross paths, pretty much ruining any possible realism in this plot. Things I liked, however: scheming and representation! This book included Jewish, plus-sized and depression representation, which is always going to be valued in my eyes. As a mental health counselor, anytime that mental health is at the forefront of a story, I tend to stiffen and become immediately on guard, analyzing the way it is portrayed. Overall, I was satisfied with the way Ari's depression was shown throughout the book, though I did find that I was feeling frustrated by just how often this was mentioned (this might, however, have to do with the fact that I spend all day talking about mental health already!). The differences between Ari's mental health and that of her mother were distinct and immense, just as they can be in real life. I also really enjoyed the scheming in the book, which added a fun twist to an otherwise fairly boilerplate story. Overall, a cute read that I enjoyed but nothing super special.
