I had the great privilege to walk across the Edmund Pettus Bridge with Representative John Lewis before he passed away. I was so excited to ask him, “What is it that you did then that we're forgetting to do now?” I thought there would be a tactic. He just looked at me and said, “You have to keep your joy.” I was so confused at the time. I sure understand it now because keeping your joy is how you continue to show up every day.
