Vivienne Westwood, mother of punk, dame of the Pistols has passed away, age 81.⁠ As released by a statement this morning, the British designer died peacefully at her home surrounded by family. The famous activist-turned-designer is widely credited for bringing punk into the mainstream, in the meantime raising awareness for issues she was passionate about, and merging British youth culture with what would become high fashion. Passionate about climate change, the environment and civil rights, Westwood was open about her politics and never swayed away from what she thought was right—and leaves an impressive legacy behind because of it.
