@KendrickLamar for Citizen Issue 002: FANTASY. Photographed at sunset on Accra’s Laboma Beach by David Nana Opoku Ansah (@cozyshrt) hours after the release of Kendrick’s fifth studio album, Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers.

Editor’s Note: “This cover and the story that accompanies it represent more than what exists on the page. On the page there is an otherworldly talent in an otherworldly place of beauty. We have not seen Kendrick like this before: he is outside, untether and exactly where he wanted to be in the moment when the image was captured, in Accra. But beyond the image itself there is more; there is a story produced in Ghana by Ghanaians—a purposefully intention held by both @pgLang and Citizen. There is no crew flown in from far away places. There is David, there is Ekow, there is Sarah. All Ghanaian, all home. We, as a team, listened to them rather than told and the result is something really special. Its existence represents something simple yet often denied: you need not import creative talent into Africa it exists there, it abounds there.“ - DPC (@daniellepowellcobb)
