@KendrickLamar for Citizen Issue 002: FANTASY. Photographed by David Nana Opoku Ansah (@cozyshrt) at twilight on Accra's Laboma Beach, hours after the release of Kendrick's fifth studio album, Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers. Editor's Note: "This Issue emphasizes the importance of the practice of leaning into the unknown, into the details that you can only see up close, the details that reveal themselves in how an image or idea is interpreted—the nuance. It’s what I love most about this FANTASY issue. Over time, the issue morphed into something not quite on the nose, something we didn’t quite expect, something grounded yet euphoric. This is clearly illustrated in the covers—the mystery beyond the frame. When I first saw the developed images, I immediately gravitated toward the photo of Kendrick looking out, away from the camera and into the blackness extending from the page. It is Kendrick in his own head, thinking, maybe daydreaming. In that image he is not adorned in the fantastic, the fantastic sits just off the page in the mind of a visionary. The viewer gets to wonder: What does he see that we can not?” - HG (@Henriettta) Photography: David Nana Opoku Ansah (@cozyshrt) Words: @_SarahOsei Co-EIC/Creative Direction: @Henriettta Co-EIC/Editorial Direction: @DaniellePowellCobb Art Direction/Design: @Othelo Gervacio /Jordi Ng (@whoremone) via @stacks.studio Stylist Assistant: Emmanuel Affedzie (@wizkojo) Production: @EkowBarnes_ @wbgrouprepresents, Natalie Tuffuoh (@nataliatnt), Anton John-Baptiste (@iainthim_) Production Coordinator: Kwesi Botchway @kaybotchway MUA: Elizabeth Boateng @elizabethboateng.mua Hair: Asia Clarke @wild_moon Post-Production: @inkretouch
