“Skating connects me to my city and local community. After years of being the clumsiest klutz on my own two feet, I felt really at home in my skates,” says @gemmabusoni (Gemma Busoni), the Los Angeles-based education activist who started skating at the age of 12. 🛼💫🌎 Four years later, when Gemma was 16, she started Discovr Labs, with the mission to make education more accessible using VR, AR and other immersive technologies. “I didn’t always have the means or the resources to learn about coding. My school didn’t have the funding or teachers for it,” says the activist and CEO, who is originally from San Salvador, El Salvador, and moved to LA before high school. “I wanted to level the playing field for students of all colors and of all backgrounds.” This #LatinxHeritageMonth, we’re featuring young activists who are changing the world and doing it #PaMiGente.
