How to Correctly and Safely Bring Hunter-Harvested Game Birds Back into the U.S. from Canada (2/2): In response to questions submitted following our previous post on how to dress and package harvested game birds for transport back into the U.S. from Canada, Dr. Steve Adair demonstrates another method that satisfies the new restrictions put in place by USDA APHIS. This demonstration shows how thighs and legs can be left attached for packaging. Effective Sept. 12, USDA APHIS now allows hunters to bring harvested game bird meat and/or carcasses across the Canadian border, so long as they adhere to new APHIS import restrictions designed to reduce the risk of spreading Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) or “bird flu.” For a complete guide to the new USDA APHIS import restrictions, visit: https://www.aphis.usda.gov/aphis/newsroom/stakeholder-info/sa_by_date/sa-2022/canada-wild-bird-game-carcasses For USDA recommendations on how hunters can further reduce HPAI risk, visit: https://www.aphis.usda.gov/publications/animal_health/fsc_hpai_hunters.pdf #DucksUnlimited #duckhunting #goosehunting
