RENEWAL:: the cosmos, galaxy, solar system, planets, all the way to the smallest organism, go through cycles. It is the nature of the Universe. Some cycles are apparent, others require a further zoom out. Even our sun, undergoes cycles, in breaths and out breaths. We have but to look. Today is they Winter Solstice and today marks a very special cycle. Throughout time, sages have recognized this planetary event in its relationship to the sun, as the point of stillness, endings, beginning, and within it renewal. Winter Solstice is a very special day. It could be said to be, the birthday of the planet. The moment of total release, of greatest darkness, of greatest potential. Total renewal. It is natural, to look out, to look at the sun, to observe its natural flow and recognized this still point. However this still point it is in relationship to the Earth. It is from here that we make a stance. It is the Earth that is in renewal. And for ourselves with it. It is a profound opportunity to come into alignment with the Earth that we walk on, this beautiful sphere we call home. Over the next days, as the sun begins its march to radiance in the Northern Hemisphere we have the capacity to renew ourselves. Take stock of our year, our deeds, our short comings, our success. Release it all, all intent. And from that emptiness, renew ourselves. —— I’ve taken a bit of a broader step this year and I journeyed to the Desert. To a sacred mountain that is said to have been the place where the Sun was born, el Cerro del Quemado, Wiricuta. A pilgrimage to honor this land, my path on it and celebrate the closing of large cycles, opening of new ones. (Btw, What are we without our myths? ) Grateful to stand here, on this land on this special day, to see the sun go, and embrace the darkness in solitude on this sacred mountain. P.S.Serious Suggested reading... Winter Solstice the Christmas Story by Gregge Tiffen Might do a live and read it out loud, it’s brief.
