TOP 3 QUESTIONS I GET ASKED AS A FOOD PHOTOGRAPHER👩🏻🍳👇🏽📸
I often get asked what my top tips are for taking high quality-drool worthy-images. So here are my answers...🙈👀
Q.🌟Do you need a professional, camera, lighting and tripod?
A. No! In fact, I think it’s better to have a standard set-up and use it REALLY well, versus a professional set-up and use it to only 10% of its potential. When I first started, I was shooting all food photos on my iPhone and small Olympus camera (not a DSLR)...and to this day, I still shoot all videos on my iPhone! When it comes to lighting, I’ve only ever used natural lighting. My tip is to find what time of the day you get that lovely golden sunshine flowing through your windows and plan your food photography around that. Don’t be afraid to play around with different angles and locations in your house!
Q.🌟What editing app do you use?
A. I edit all photos on Adobe @lightroom - I find it super easy and intuitive to use and allows me to tweak everything to the finer detail. 😮💨Unfortunately, Lightroom for desktops requires a subscription, however, I’d highly recommend playing around with their mobile app which is totally free!
Q.🌟What props should I buy?
A. I’m constantly looking for new and interesting ways to use items that I already have lying around the house! Being homeware-obsessed, I do love shooting with new plates and tableware. But this isn’t to say that you NEED them to take beautiful food photos. You probably have a bunch of props lying around the house! My favourites are baking paper, material napkins/placemats/pillowcases, other ingredients/crumbs from the recipe, flowers/plants, cookbooks, chopping boards, baking trays, cake tins, vases, cup and saucers, and glassware.
