The end of our nomadic season is quickly approaching, which is bittersweet. Once the snow is here, we’ll be fairly stationary in an off grid spot for the majority of the winter. Last year, as I’ve shared before, we were completely unprepared & spent everyday just trying to survive 😅 This year is a totally different story and we are feeling confident with the changes we’ve made to be able to thrive this winter!⁣ ⁣ ⚡️ One of the biggest upgrades has been installing 750 watts of solar + 540aH @battlebornbatteries lithium batteries. Our deep cycle batteries *literally* exploded last year due to the cold & we would only get 3-4 hours of charge before needing to run the generator. Even when solar is no longer effective in dark winter, our lithiums will still last us around 10 days before needing to be recharged!⁣ ⁣ 🔥 We swapped our propane furnace for a @tinywoodstove which has been incredible! Not only is it super fun to collect + chop wood, but it’s a free heat source! Bonus: it produces dry heat rather than creating condensation. ⁣ ⁣ 💩 Switching to a composting toilet was a huge priority. Last year’s black tank issues + poopsicle situation was awful and we knew there was a better way!⁣ ⁣ 💧Once temps are consistently below freezing, we will drain our fresh/grey tanks & implement a water system that includes smaller holding tanks inside the Airstream that will stay above freezing.
