Some things people of color are still healing from while helping rising generations unlearn in 2023.
~ your lighter haired and lighter skinned cousins are not more beautiful than you. Your güera glorifying tias and abuelas choose to associate beauty with the social currency white supremacy created around lighter skin.
~ it’s actually up to the men in your family not to objectify and sexualize their daughters, cousins and nieces and to teach their sons to do the same. It has nothing to do with wardrobes.
~ it was never okay for your parents/grandparents to uphold harmful beliefs or teach you harmful things, and now that they know better they can’t just be “from another time”. If they are alive today then they are very much here with us “today”.
~ you deserve a positive relationship with your body and with sex. Sex positivity isn’t about hyper-sexuality, it’s about helping us unlearn the guilt and shame that patriarchal religions taught us about our bodies.
~ sometimes we chose to not heal because we have created an identity around our trauma, but we are so much more. (TY @eboneedavis )
~ we are so primed to punish each other via systemic conditioning and fear mongering but our capacity to heal and love each other will create the worlds we have yet to know.
What else are you and rising generations in your family learning, unlearning and embracing? 🤎
