In the winter of 1990, @peter_marlow_foundation traveled to Ulyanovsk, a western Russian city next to the Volga River. The city is best known as the birthplace of Vladimir Lenin in 1870, where the future Soviet leader lived until age 17. Marlow, who set out to photograph daily life in the city, also captured several views of the city at night.
The first image here, in which people are seen sheltering from the cold to wait for unofficial taxis, is available as part of After Dark, a new collection of limited-edition posters celebrating the transformative quality of the nighttime.
