Issue 14 SS ‘22 is a cross-disciplinary exploration of the body’s past, present, and future on Spaceship Earth. American painter and musician Eliza Douglas is powerfully defiant in her representation of the darkness and nausea that defines our contemporary psyche. Death metal, anime, graphic novels, Disney characters, and other iconography of capitalism’s import export war of intellectual property are distorted and twisted in paintings that resemble something like bed sheets from a crime scene. Douglas is also an unconventional muse—to German artist Anne Imhof with whom she most recently collaborated on a total takeover of the Palais de Tokyo, and Demna Gvasalia, who has collaborated with her on countless campaigns and runway presentations for Vetements and Balenciaga.
