As I squeezed myself through this bluer than blue canyon, crampons crunching & my fingers soaked + cold from touching the smooth ice, my thought was, “the girl who grew up in suburbia PA had no freaking clue that this would be her life.” My family was born, raised & stayed on the east coast. I never left the eastern time zone until I was 18. So when some college friends invited me to join them on their Alaska adventure in 2014, I couldn’t say yes fast enough! My horizons were ready to be expanded - I just didn’t know HOW expanded they would become! As I look back, that trip changed my life. I discovered mountains that stay snow capped even in summer, glaciers that you can hike to & a culture of people who live life to the fullest and spend all of their free time outside. I desired to live like that and 5 years later, we traded an apartment for an Airstream, stable jobs for the flexibility (and heartache) that comes from entrepreneurship and now 8 years later, I’m living in the place that started it all.
