✨ September is Skin Care Awareness Month ✨ One of the most common questions I get is about acne scars vs. post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (the dark spots that can linger after breakouts). While they may look similar, they’re not the same—and the treatments are different. 🌟 Acne scars = changes in the texture of the skin, usually permanent without in-office treatments.
🌟 Dark spots (PIH) = pigmentation that will fade with time (and the right care). Tips I share with my patients for fading dark spots:
☀️ Daily broad-spectrum sunscreen (a must—UV makes dark spots last longer!)
🌙 A retinoid for cell turnover (OTC or prescription, depending on your skin)
🍊 Gentle exfoliants like glycolic acid
💧 Prescription brightening agents, if needed
⚡ And for stubborn cases, lasers like PicoSure Pro can help Remember: scars are structural, dark spots are pigment—and both can be improved. The key is knowing the difference and choosing the right approach. #SkinCareAwarenessMonth #DermatologyTips #AcneCare #HealthySkin #drtruitt #drtruittsandiego #sandiegodermatologist
