For #nationalfitnessday I thought I would share a post that has helped me and motivate my work ๐ The amount of work and passion that @strongwithstu puts into his training for himself and his clients is inspiring. Quick squat technique and setup tips ๐ค:
1. Set your hands on the bar before you get underneath it ๐๐ป
This ensures your hands are even on the bar so itโll stay balanced.
Sounds obvious I know, but I see so many people not doing it.
2. Have your hands as close together as comfort allows ๐บ๐ผ
You want to be able to squeeze your elbows into your body to engage your lats.
This will keep you more stable throughout each rep.
And having your hands close together makes this easier.
3. Point your elbows in the direction you want to descend
Trying to sit straight down as you squat?
Then point your elbows straight down, rather than having them point towards the wall behind you as Iโll often see.
Your body will follow the direction of your elbows, so this will make it easier to stay upright.
4. Push your knees forward not out ๐คฏ
Keep them in line with your toes of course, but by pushing your knees forward youโll be in a better position to stay upright.
This means youโll be more likely to use your quads as the primary mover in the exercise.
5. Donโt try and place each side of the bar into the j-hooks ๐ค
This is awkward and potentially dangerous at the end of a gruelling set.
Instead, just walk the bar back into the rack until you hear it hit each upright.
Now you can sit it down knowing youโre in a safe position to do so ๐
