Public speaking has never been my forte, it’s challenging and scary for a lot of people, and for someone with social anxiety (it takes me a while sometimes to muster enough energy to go to the market, committing to a 1-1 hang is basically out of the question unless I feel super comfortable with you, and during the pandemic I strongly disliked interviews or meetings that were taken by FaceTime/zooms—would much rather take those by phone ) but all three I consciously try to push myself to do as much as I can.
In hospitality, the constant hypersensitivity has played a integral part in my hospitality journey and has taught and guided me in being intuitive, empathetic and anticipating the needs and the wants of guests before they ask for anything, how someone is feeling just from a quick facial expression, it’s been a huge gut driver and core of my hospitality style.
With public speaking, as nerve wrecking as it was, I’m grateful for the experiences like last weeks @forbes invitation to speak at the 10th annual Power Women’s Summit (my first Ted talk style presentation! Thank you @moiraforbes @mailmodels)
I’m so grateful to have been able to do so with @yinchang who’s a. The most supportive, loving and nurturing partner (and has been an incredible coach) b. can write a speech like nobody’s business and read and deliver it so powerfully and engaging from just practicing it the morning of.
I initially cropped out just the segment that I felt was delivered the most fluidly without the stumbles and falters but it didn’t encapsulate my personal journey properly. You’re always your own harshest critic so I’m posting this overall clip and acknowledging and being proud of committing and going on stage to talk about Heart of Dinner.
Making it a personal goal this year to continue to practice speaking and work on the anxieties, if anyone has leads on coaches or therapists who specializes in either, lmk! 🥰
