I didn’t post this on here for ages because I didn’t know if I could actually pull it off but it’s really happening THIS SUNDAY and I can remember nearly all of the words! A few months ago I got asked to do a TEDX talk on something feminist because one of the organisers saw us play and I guess heard me banging on in between songs. I’ve chosen to speak about femicide because it’s the topic I’ve been most active on in recent years and have been researching it intensely to come up with 6 broad ways that we have the power to act to end femicide. I will of course be presenting a trans inclusive definition of femicide. It’s been upsetting and rage-inducing to research this topic further, but I’m also so fired up with inspiration from reading more about the movements fighting femicide all over the world, especially the Ni Una/e Menos movement in Latin America and the huge movement kicking off in Iran right now in response to the femicide of a Kurdish woman, Jina Mahsa Amini, at the hands of the morality police. It’s been really hard to distill this massive topic into the time limit - I’m really pushing it - and make it accessible for a mega wide audience. Writing the script for this talk has made me want to develop it into some sort of course, or a long piece of writing - at least another zine! But yeah getting my head down and trying to do a good job on Sunday first 😬 Big love to everyone who has checked over the script for me ❤️ Fucking hope I pull it off and do this heavy heartbreaking topic - that we truly do have the power to change - justice.
