Tbh, this is one of the core reasons I’m so in love with this #softlife movement taking form right now. I think it’s super important to recognize that not all dark skin women ever had a want to be anything other than their extra melanated selves. It is usually about why is it hard for others to see us in the same loving, complex, beautiful, and equally deserving light as those who are not darker skinned. I was always very empowered by my skin. However, I’ve had tons of experiences especially being out and about in Los Angeles (Y’all should realize by now, I’m not one to speak in code 🤷🏾‍♀️) where it was crazy apparent that I’m not the prize.
