We need your help this Giving Tuesday! If each one of our followers were to Venmo us $3, we would be able to fund an incredible educational tool for the Morro Bay Museum of Natural History–a 3D image scanner!
The Morro Bay Museum has a collection of 6,000+ items of local natural and cultural significance (like the cool artifacts shown here). Many are in storage as they are culturally sensitive, fragile, rare, and/or unsafe to display. Several skeletons, specimens, and archaeological artifacts from the yak tityu tityu yak tiłhini Northern Chumash and Salinan Tribes are unavailable for the public to learn about and enjoy.
The 3D image scanner will allow the objects and artifacts to be uploaded to a public digital collection! CA State Park staff plans to host a workshop at the museum for high school students to introduce the museum’s collection management system and teach them how to use the 3D scanner for a hands-on lesson. As a capstone project during the career-based workshop, students will pick an object from the collection and fully process it into the system, including writing a caption, creating the scan and uploading it to the database.
