@intlsalsamuseum WOWS AT FIRST POP-UP EXHIBIT STARRING SALSA SUPERSTAR VICTOR MANUELLE DURING NEW YORK INTERNATIONAL SALSA CONGRESS
Nonprofit raised funds and continues to build case for Bronx-Bound cultural institute
On Saturday, September 3 the International Salsa Museum (ISM) hosted its first pop-up exhibit during the 20th New York International Salsa Congress at the Marriott Times Square, which attracted almost 7K enthusiasts from over 42 countries.
Sony Music Latin recording artist and salsa superstar Victor Manuelle was bestowed the David Melendez Lifetime Achievement Award by Congress. He was spotlighted at the Museum’s exhibit, which hosted a fan meet-and-greet with the Puerto Rican sonero, who also received a high-powered ovation for his riveting surprise performance where the singer freestyled to tunes by the New York International Salsa Congress All-Star orchestra featuring legendary band members.
ISM presented a prequel event at Industry City’s hot weekly outdoor salsa party, Jukanbaila, where Victor Manuelle did a surprise appearance, and debuted his latest music video off his new album, ‘Lado A, Lado B.’
In a moving speech, ISM Co-Founder and Executive Director Willy Rodriguez said, “There is a museum for Country, Hip-hop, and Jazz music, and Salsa deserves one too,” which made the room erupt in applause, and this weekend’s festivities helped build the case for the 501c3 cultural institute’s Bronx-bound sights.
