Medical training is milestone after milestone and a string of mental tricks for delayed gratification, but graduating from residency deserves proper celebration. My co-resident crew will live rent-free in my heart forever as will our sun-drenched apartment in Pilsen. I could not have survived without my heroic husband who held our lives together while I was studying for months on end, especially when four weeks before my boards, our apartment flooded. A ceiling almost caved in(!) because of an upstairs neighbor’s bathroom issue. (of note, my Philly apartment also flooded weeks before my Step 1 board exam in medical school, perhaps a good omen?) When I was graduating from medical school, I was getting married the next day. Seems fitting that the day after this graduation, I moved across the country for fellowship— I with my toddler by plane and bus and my husband driving our things in a 26 ft truck. This post may be a couple days late, but is no less meaningful. Here’s to my next adventure. This city girl is, for the first time, moving to a quieter, rural setting. #dermatopathology #womeninmedicine #byechicago #lastyearoftraining #ididit #doctormom #finishedresidency #flood #hellonewhampshire #celebrateachievement
