We're honoring 73 years of progress! ❤️ On this day in 1944, Robert "Robbie" Roesler de Villiers, the inspiration for what would become The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, was only 16 years old when he lost his life to leukemia. From his parent's grief emerged a vision for an organization that focused on fundraising and education for blood cancers in Robbie's name. At that time, the task of finding a cure was extremely daunting. Most leukemia patients, especially children, passed away within three months. The organization continued to expand with an unrelenting mission to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families. Today, we are The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society - the global leader in the fight against blood cancer.
