We are standing on the shoulders of giants. A few weeks ago, I was able to visit this statue of Komitas Vardapet at the Armenian Genocide memorial in the most beautiful location in Paris. He was a legendary composer, but most importantly to me, he was a priest for our Armenian Apostolic Church ... for the first nation to adopt Christianity in 301 AD. My great-grandfather was a part of his choir in Constantinople. The persecution of Armenians, in some form or another, has never stopped. The daily news is disappointing & I know it seems like so many politicians prioritize oil, gas, autocracy, barbarism, self-preservation & realpolitik over decency, morality & honor. Do not lose faith ... 2 Corinthians 12:9 - “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” This is a short chapter in a long & proud book about the Armenian people. I do not waste a second worrying about what other people do or do not do. I will continue to do what I can personally & privately — knowing that our Armenian diaspora has been influential in supporting & advocating for Armenia & Artsakh for generations. The more successful we are in our own spheres of influence, the stronger the Armenian nation can become against nefarious forces now & in the future. My advice to friends from all backgrounds who have asked me what they can do: Do not spin your wheels on social media.
