Hi there, friends. My name is Susan Hogan. From the Bach Dancing and Dynamite Society (1975-79) in Half Moon Bay, CA to my current job at Roxby Development in my birthplace of Wheeling, WV, my creative career path has included the awe-inspiring Wheeling Symphony (1979-87), US Peace Corps in Benin, West Africa (1987-90), the powerful YWCA of Wheeling (1991-98) and back to the symphony (2000-09). A 12 year “retirement” included setting myself loose downtown with some local artists, a great landscape architect (Hayslas) with permissions granted by City Manager Bob Herron and Mayor Andy McKenzie to create pocket parks and art installations, including the Sculpture Garden with the beloved Bobo. Why wouldn’t you want a life-size Asian elephant on Main Street? Two volunteer boards stand out for longevity with a true passion and commitment to the institutions: WV Public Broadcasting for 37 years and Youth Services System for 33. From its inception as a non-profit 8 years ago, I’ve been honored to serve on the board of Grow Ohio Valley and will continue till they throw me off 😊 It was Grow OV that introduced me to young brilliant minds hell-bent on changing the fabric of downtown Wheeling with a food justice system now gaining national attention. And, just before I turned 71, I lost my soul mate of 35 years, Bill Hogan, a force majeure for Wheeling. I watched another chapter open in front of me, as it always has, and I asked the then 34 year old Roxby President Jeffrey Morris if I could work for his company. It took him two weeks to decide. 😀 In my world of the arts, racial and social justice, and an oath to improve the quality of life, beauty, and passion for downtown Wheeling, I’ve met brilliant minds.
