The last words of my book, ‘The Mountain Is You.’ It’s impossible to try to describe what I was feeling when I wrote them. It was like the culmination of a journey all itself, and also as though I could finally take a deep breath, like I had pulled out of me the thing that really wouldn’t let me rest until it was out in the world. Like I had put onto paper the one line that I always wanted to remember — that it is not what we face, but who we decide to become, that ends up mapping the course of our lives. That the wisdom gained from our introspection stays with us forever. That the truths we uncover about who we are and what we really desire can always guide and carry us forward. That no storm can go on forever (even if it has lasted for longer than you ever thought it would) but what you learn through healing yourself, comforting yourself, changing yourself, loving yourself, showing up for yourself, challenging yourself, and becoming yourself will stay with you always. That is the silver lining. That is the hope. And that is the point.
