“Marble House Christmas” It’s hard to believe that despite only living less than 2 hours from them my whole life I had never gone on a tour of any of the famous mansions in Newport, RI until December 2019. From the moment I stepped inside Marble House I was immediately blown away by the massive size of the building itself and only became more overwhelmed as we started the self guided tour. It’s hard to believe that this was only a summer house or “cottage” as it was called during the late 1800’s when it was built for Mr. & Mrs. William K. Vanderbilt. The fifty room mansion required a staff of 36 servants and cost $11 million to build, which would be equivalent to over $300 million today. Going through my photos from there it was hard to pick out which would be the first to edit and post, but this one from the “Gothic Room” definitely stood out. This room was designed in Gothic Revival-style to display Alva Vanderbilt’s collection of Medieval & Renaissance decorative items. If you’ve never been I’d say to make sure it’s on your New England holiday bucket list to get to this year or whenever you get the chance! • • • • #aswediscover #moodygrams #earthfocus #gramslayers #discoverearth #amazing_shots #yourshotphotographer #depthsofearth #master_gallery #wondermore #newengland #mynewengland #ig_color #rhodeisland #pineandwater #roamtheplanet #newport #mycountryhome #thatsgoodhousekeeping #VisitRhody #theclassiccoast #newportmansions #christmas #christmasdecor #christmastree #tlpicks
