So inspired after a quick trip to Berkeley to celebrate my dear friends at the world premiere of @goddessthemusical . The creative team and cast are OUT OF THIS WORLD (aliens, honestly 😉) and I’m honored that I get to share my life with people making magic and telling the kind of stories we’ll be sharing forever. I think the show holds a special spot in my heart because it’s set in a bar in Mombasa, Kenya. My boo, @pricelispd invited me with her on an 96 hour adventure there a few years ago, and the trip changed my life. Story for another day, but in short, the trip taught me how to say YES. It’s one of the best adventures I’ve ever taken and I’ve been on a few. Anyway, the talent is UNREAL but more than anything I was reminded how important it is to GET IN THE GAME. Bringing the show to Berkeley didn’t happen overnight. This thing has been years in the making. And it really feels wonderful to cheer your friends on while they’re in the game. Putting something out in the world for others to experience is one of the most vulnerable and thrilling things one can do. And I am the friend that’s going to cheer embarrassingly loud, take a hundred pictures on your phone (and mine), hold your purse and take a celebratory shot with your Mom and break down every facet of the experience the morning after. I have a LOT of friendships. And it’s not because I am just bored and like collecting people. I am ENERGIZED by celebrating the people in my life and seeing them win. It puts more fuel in my tank and encourages me to focus on my game. I got the chance to spend some time with the Executive Director of @vdayorg while in San Francisco and while we’ve been working together for over two years this was our first time meeting in person. Hearing first hand how @vdayorg came to be the movement it is set my heart ablaze. My desire to build and empower communities around stories and culture has a fresh fire— so look out for what’s coming. Plus, I was reminded that while New York City shaped me, California holds my heart. As we close out this month of August, get around some folks who fuel the fire in heart. It’s good and will encourage you to GET IN THE GAME. #holliswashere
