Demolition Rhythm - 6’x13’x6’ ft
13 ft tall outdoor sculpture that sustains its own ecosystem. Life and regeneration amidst destruction and dereliction of urban spaces. The piece portrays the rhythm of human beings' constant cycle of building and destroying.
The sculpture is made mostly with clay, which is a mixture of water and sand, which are also presented separately at the base of the sculpture. Whereas the structural rebars are reminiscent of the skeleton of a building which is visible during the construction process, but also during demolition.
The materials are all collected from the Governor’s Island. The clay is a mixture of cement and sand that is collected from earth. And the main structure is recycled abandoned wood, which affects the aesthetic as I put it together randomly based on found objects. The act of building with limited resources is inspired by architecture in Iraq. I often find aesthetic and poetic beauty in the result of random building.
