RESACA by @josepvilacapdevila 1 > 15 JULY @spacetobe.art @moneobrock Calle Benigno Soto 14, Madrid MAYRIT @mayrit.bienal Architecture and design biennial Il·lacions design gallery is participating in the second edition of the MAYRIT biennial architecture and design platform with the installation "Resaca" by designer Josep Vila Capdevila. An immersive installation that takes the viewer to a dystopian world where humanity's only remaining natural resources are its own rubbish and detritus. Jagged shards of broken glass are the principal construction element of what we intuit is a strange space glistening with danger. The installation created by designer Josep Vila shares the concept of this year's biennial: "The Drowned World(s)" based on J.G. Ballard's eponymous 1962 novel. In this dystopian book, the Earth is completely flooded due to the melting of the polar ice caps and only the tallest skyscrapers emerge above the surface. Josep Vila pushes a set of semi-utilitarian furniture to the limit. It threatens and provokes, invites and prohibits in equal measure; an exercise in speculative design that reflects on the future of society.
