Reposting this Reel- as we approach Fall, lots of your are restarting your retinol/retinoid routine and asking how much to use and how... (Notice I use the terms retinol and retinoid sometimes interchangeably; they are both in the same family of vitamin A derivatives, retinols are gentler than retinoids. Generally same rules apply to both. I have a post on this explaining the difference, can re-post soon if you cannot find it on my feed). ⚠️ Top retinol/retinoid mistakes to avoid: ❌ applying too much of it (causes dryness, redness, irritation, peeling, burning); pea-sized amount is enough! ❌ using every night when starting (use 2x week for 2 weeks, the increase to every other night for 2 more weeks, the try nightly if tolerated) ❌ applying without a moisturizer (the skin barrier may get disrupted if not repaired with a moisturizer) A few extra tips: ✅ use retinol at night (not in the morning, as it gets inactivated by sunlight) ✅ thread or pluck your eyebrows (rather than waxing) when on a retinol regimen ✅ discontinue if pregnant (we don’t know if topical retinoids are safe in pregnancy) ✅ use consistently and be patient, results are seen long term (kind of like exercising, you need to keep doing it to stay in shape!) ❓What else would you like to know about retinol/retinoids? ⏩ Link in bio for retinol product recs. #retinol #skincare #tips #dermatologist #sensitiveskin #sensitiveskincare #hudsonyards #beauty #beautytips #cosmetics #dermtips
