Still, you must check the expiration date on your specific home test kits. Results are not reliable if the test kit has expired. Omai Garner, PhD, director of clinical microbiology for UCLA Health, says, “Once they’re past expiration, we just don’t know how they’re going to perform. It’s best to look at the expiration date and if they’re past expiration, make sure you throw them away."
