Columbus haunts our dreams, the nightmare of colonialism is the reality we wake up with everyday. The hollow gestures of Indigenous Peoples Day leaves a bitter taste in our mouths, but this isn't medicine... It's the acrid ash of a hxstory which has burnt a hole in the heart of so many worlds. With land acknowledged, with ballots cast, and now with our relatives dancing like skeletons in the new forts of a dying empire for the most meager of political rations. "Indigenous Peoples' Day" is everyday they say, yet hold their hands out for the the smallest scraps of acknowledgement. The politics of recognition is a politics of capitulation. It is the role playing of the good indian. Pacified. No longer the knife at the throat of a colonizer. A dull implement, perhaps a butter knife drawn at the dinner table, ready to feast on the sacrifice at the altar of resignation, of complete domestication. They proclaim Indigenous Peoples Day. While they desecrate your sacred lands. While they build pipelines. While they build walls. While they cage children. While they sterilize women. While they violate our bodies and render us, the missing. This is the failing of wokedianess that has left it's militant path no offerings, no prayers... The emaciated spirit of our ancestors is weeping. This is a strategy of Indigenous death, and we reject it with every part of our being.
