Let me tell you a little story about how I ended up in this global campaign... Danielle and I have been friends for abt 10 years and she’s always told me I should sign with a modeling agency because the industry needs more curvy Black women. I did some modeling gigs here and in nyc but she insisted I’d take it to the next level. In 2013 she gave me her former agent’s email so I sent him some photos. His response? ‘You’re beautiful but I won’t be able to make any money on you.’ In literally everything I do as a Black woman I experience pushback, resistance, lack of imagination, courage and possibilities, misunderstanding etc etc. It always stings but never stops me. So, go where you are appreciated right? I put together my portfolio and flew to London because well yeah... London. Did walk ins at nearly every modeling agency big or small and all I heard was ‘we already have a curvy Black woman’. *pretends to be shocked* Fast forward to almost a decade later Danielle really wanted me to be a part of her shoot and she fought to have me in there. Danielle, you a real one and I love and appreciate you. Keep shaping the world to your vision ✿ Ps. My first internship at 15 was at a Hunkemöller store. Things coming full circle is a major theme in my life.
