A new sculpture by artist Cy Twombly joined us in the Pavilions this summer, on loan to Glenstone from the Cy Twombly Foundation while “Anabasis”, 1980, has been traveling to Los Angeles (@gettymuseum) and to Boston (@mfaboston) for “Cy Twombly: Making Past Present”. "Anabasis" will be on view in Boston beginning January 14, 2023. While Twombly rarely explained what was crossing his mind when he made sculptures, in “Untitled (To Apollinaire)”, 2009, the artist was inspired by a photograph of French poet and playwright Guillaume Apollinaire with his head wrapped in bandages after a wound during the First World War.
