Happy World Afro Day! I had the pleasure of being on a panel with @worldafroday founder Michelle De Leon and I salute you and all the great work you are doing. World Afro Day is about celebrating, acceptance and joy. When you’ve grown up made to feel less than, excluded, thrown out of school, have opportunities and invisible doors closed to you because of the way your hair naturally grows out of your head, it’s hard not to internalise this. I love the fact a new generation are growing up with more positive role models, tools, products and loving affirmations about their hair and ultimately their role in the world. This is me before my mum relaxed my hair at 8. I remember just wanting to cut it all off, my hair was pain, trauma and I wanted to look like my big brother - I think what I really wanted was not to be burdened with all the baggage my hair carried with it and be free. 40 years later I am.....I love my coils and wish I didn’t waste so much time hating them. #worldafroday #love #coils #curls #selflove
