my dad died this week. he was 50 years old. we had a complicated relationship and i loved him very much. he was incredibly smart, and funny, and he cared deeply about people. he loved guns and rugby and he didn’t like or trust politicians. after i came out to him he asked me EVERY time we spoke if i was “seeing any guys” which was sweet but also terrorism. he showed me George Carlin when i was way too young to be watching George Carlin. i sent him my character tape a few years ago and he said, “i didn’t get a lot of it but the audience seemed to like it.” he kept telling me the last few years that he was leaving me his house when he died and i would say something like “god i hope it’s soon i could really use the money.” he laughed really hard at that joke every time. he won’t see this post because he refused to be on any social media (he also won’t see it because of the other thing).
