Hey everyone, Zock here.
Back in March 2020 I had my patchy, yet steadily woven rug pulled from under my feet as many other musicians did too. Previously, I had prioritized making time for Petrol Girls’ touring schedule while still being self-employed working for other musicians to make ends meet. As everything screeched to a halt due to the start of the pandemic, I felt like I lost my grip on what’s been the main drive in my life for fifteen years straight.
Adjusting to the situation and getting back on my feet took a while and required a lot of changes and by the time the touring world seemingly went back to normal in 2022, it became clear to me that I wasn’t in the same headspace as two years ago anymore. In addition, having caught Covid at our first tour back and having had quite a rough run with it led to feeling consistently exhausted switching between my new job and touring.
It got harder and harder to feel enthusiastic about what’s ahead.
And so after nine years of drumming for Petrol Girls, I’ve decided to take a big step back and leave the band in a few months time.
This wasn’t an easy decision to make by any means and it took me a long time and a lot of work in therapy to actually get to this point, but it feels like a big relief accepting that things around me have changed and that i needed to change with them.
Everything we accomplished as Petrol Girls has been way beyond my wildest expectations (if there ever were any to begin with) – from starting out in the UK house-show and DIY scene to headlining our own tours across Europe, playing some amazing support runs and festivals while releasing three albums, two EP’s in the process - it all still seems very surreal to me.
