This special place felt like “home” for a few days on our crazy no fly journey to the Arctic 😮 aka why I love @airbnb 💚 After a long @eurail train voyage from Switzerland via Hamburg and Copenhagen, a week of digital nomad-ing in Oslo, stunning train rides from Oslo to Trondheim to Bodo (on which we crossed the Arctic Circle), and a choppy ferry ride on the Norwegian Sea, we finally arrived on Værøy- one of the lesser visited Lofoten Islands, and one of the most spectacular places I’ve ever experienced! (Maybe I’m using “ever” too many times this year, but that’s what it feels like ☺️) On this island of only around 800 people, with towering mountains, the turquoise sea, white sand beaches, a 12th century church and mountain sides filled with wildflowers, we experienced something I’ll never forget - 24 hours of daylight! We went hiking at 11 am under a pink sky, cooked midnight meals with bright light pouring in through the windows, cycled at 1 am just because we could, and slept with eye masks 😂 Of course it was a bit like cheating because we got to experience the magical summer without having to bear the harsh, punishing winter with barely any sun. Thanks to our sweet Airbnb host, we received after-hours access to the local pub, got insider tips on a hiking trail to an abandoned fishing village (more on that soon), and became part of this small Arctic community for a while. Our time on the island reminded me of all the reasons I (used to) travel - to witness this planet’s beauty and connect with people I couldn’t otherwise have known. Just feeling gratitude today for calling this my work and life, atleast for now 🙏 [Collab with Airbnb and Eurail]
