This is me and my 93 yr old friend Doreen. We met while I was tending to @eastfinchleyjungle and I have visited her every Monday since March to help her go for a walk and to chat. One of the first times we met I told her I didn’t have any living biological grandparents and she immediately said “I’ll be your grandma”. Never in my adult life have I had a elderly grandparent to visit weekly. She asks me for gossip, how work is going (although she regularly reminds me she doesn’t understand what I do) and tells me about her life. She can be stubborn, tells you off and doesn’t understand why I won’t get out a side table to put a cup of tea on. Every week she gives me a bar of chocolate. It has been a great comfort to have a elderly friend who sits without judgement, who thrives on conversation and gossip and who just wants to sit with you. Last week Doreen moved to Cornwall to be with her next of kin so we’ll be pen pals now. And while I’ll miss that comfort and routine I’m also so pleased she will have company and more than 4 walls on the daily. See you down in Cornwall Doreen. 💖
