#repost I met André about 18 years ago during Paris Fashion week. Giancarlo Giametti invited me to see Valentino’s show. I was sitting in the first row and André sat in the last row purposefully. He was so humble. CNN interviewed me about the show and André introduced himself after. After speaking for a bit, I went back inside to congratulate Valentino. André waited for me for almost an hour by himself because he wanted to get lunch together and have me show him my new collection. We called in room service at the Ritz, where we both were staying, and walked through the Louvre while we waited for his driver to pick us up. I remember the car was so small, we barely fit. André liked my collection so much he called Anna to come see it. I’ll never forget him hiding his ‘le club sandwich’ under the table so Anna wouldn’t see it. He was supposed to be on a diet! Anna loved the collection too and they scheduled a photoshoot with Liya Kebede and he wrote an article about me for Vogue on his page. Since then we became great friends. He was one of my biggest supporters and mentors. He would always come to my fashion shows and show room. We did a 6-month project together for the Scad fashion school in Savanna Georgia and it was a big success. André was so good about giving back to the community, he was very kind in that way. Quick final story. André asked me to do a custom fur coat for him. I remember having to stand on a ladder to measure him properly because he was so tall!
